
National Initiative Launched From St. Louis with Teacher Town Hall Broadcast From the Nine Network
The national launch of American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen occured in St. Louis on November 7, 2011, with a live broadcast of an American Graduate Teacher Town Hall moderated by Gwen Ifill, senior correspondent for PBS NewsHour and moderator and managing editor of Washington Week.
More than 100 area teachers participated in the St. Louis Teacher Town Hall, the first in a series being conducted in cities across the country. The Teacher Town Halls serves as a catalyst to generate new conversations about education today and the realities faced by America’s teachers. The St. Louis Teacher Town Hall was also streamed nationwide, and segments were featured on PBS NewsHour.
Patricia Harrison, president and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, was in St. Louis for the launch event to emphasize the critical importance of American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen and the national effort to improve graduation rates in communities across the country.
