Producer Anne-Marie Berger speaks with several World War II veterans who fought in the battle of Iwo Jima. While the image of the flag being raised has perhaps become one of the most iconic of all time, inspiring books, television specials and even movies, the heroics of American troops takes on new meaning when told firsthand. Living St. Louis tells the local story of the Iwo Jima battle through the eyes of St. Louis veterans who were there and survived. "Throughout the Your Stories project I've met so many St. Louis veterans with vivid recollections of this battle," Berger says. "They represent living history. Together, their firsthand accounts can paint a more vivid and accurate picture than any textbook."
