Producer Ruth Ezell profiles Cahokia, IL musician Larry Young and his encounter with opera star Barbara Smith Conrad. She made headlines in the 1950s when, as one of the first African-American students to integrate the University of Texas at Austin, she was cast in a student opera opposite a while male classmate. Smith Conrad was dropped from the cast after Texas lawmakers threatened to pull state funding to the University.
