Ruth Ezell looks at the nineNetwork of Public Media’s Homeland initiative, a multi-platform project exploring immigration. Beginning in February 2010, nineNetwork began engaging the community to see what they feel needs to be discussed about immigration in the St. Louis region and the nation. This community input has fueled an interactive web presence and is driving the creation of a four-hour documentary series. In July, explorehomeland.org was launched; an online space for the community to come together and discuss immigration In Spring 2011, the documentary will be broadcast telling the immigration story in the region through personal stories. In innovative ways, Homeland is creating a new model for public service media.
