The Nine Network Offers Missouri and Illinois Voters a Pre-Election Day Guide

Beyond November Voters’ Guide Explores Local Races and Issues;

on Election Day, Nine PBS and Nine World Channels Will Air Full Election Coverage


St. Louis, MOOctober 25, 2012On the night before Election Day, the Nine Network of Public Media will focus on the many local races that are up for grabs on November 6. Beyond November Voters’ Guide, broadcast on Nine PBS twice on November 5 at 7:00 p.m. (live) and 10:00 p.m., examines local candidates and issues that voters will face the next day.

Beyond November Voters’ Guide will summarize how races and issues have evolved and compare where candidates stand on those issues. Host Jim Kirchherr of the Nine Network will join reporters from the St. Louis Beacon and St. Louis Public Radio to look at Missouri’s statewide races, particularly the Senate race between Todd Akin and Claire McCaskill, the 12th congressional race in Illinois, ballot measures and issues affecting the economy and education.

On Election Day itself, beginning at 7:00 p.m., Nine PBS will present national coverage on PBS NewsHour Election Night 2012: A Special Report, co-anchored by Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff. At the same time on the Nine World channel, the Nine Network will broadcast complete local election coverage via a simulcast with KSDK. The broadcast will originate from Nine’s and KSDK’s studios and include input from Nine Network and Beacon reporters.

Beyond November Voters’ Guide is part of Beyond November, the Nine Network’s continuing, in-depth initiative exploring the election and its aftermath, in partnership with the St. Louis Beacon and St. Louis Public Radio. The Beyond November initiative also offers a website ( and daily email updates to engage the community in the democratic process.Reporting will continue into 2013 with analysis and stories about how well elected officials are adhering to their campaign promises.

Also as part of the Beyond November initiative, Nine’s new, weekly interactive series Stay Tuned, dealing with current topics, will debut on Nine PBS November 8 at 9:00 p.m. with a discussion about the impact of the elections. Throughout the live, hour-long program, viewers will be able to participate and exchange their views during the televised dialogue via social media.
