"A Town, A Photograph, and a Lynching Close to Home"

Claude Clegg is an award-winning historian whose has published widely in African American history. His most recent book, Troubled Ground: A Tale of Murder, Lynching, and Reckoning in the New South, is a brilliant exploration of a deeply personal story. In 1906, Professor Clegg's hometown of Salisbury, North Carolina, was the site of a triple lynching that became a national news story. Professor Clegg's talk, based on his book, will weave this local tragedy into a larger American story about race, violence, and memory.
