To try to understand the origin of Earth, scientists study regions where new stars and planets are forming. They observe very young stars, those still surrounded by the remnants of the giant clouds of dust and gas in which they were born. Logan Brown will explain how astronomers search in the leftover disks of star-forming material for traces of water and other chemicals necessary for life. Sponsored by St. Louis Astronomical Society and NASA MO Space Grant Consortium at Washington University.
